The Best You Never Heard (Jun 23)

“Runnin’ her hands through my fro / bouncin’ on 24s” What we’re listening to this week…

It’s a cover. It’s a remix. It’s a remix of a cover. While it might take a while to figure out how to describe Panda (Jaël Remix), it will only take seconds to recognize why you need this in your summer playlist immediately. The California sister duo VanJess has built a strong following on YouTube for their acoustic covers of popular hip-hop and R&B songs. A while back they did a cover to Desiigner’s hit Panda, which inspired this Baile Funk themed remix by Netherlands producer Jaël.

We pick up the tempo with Intimate (feat E. Doza) from San Diego producer JR Jarris. This track is a nice treatment of the 1977 soul record Intimate Friends by Eddie Kendricks, and doesn’t waste any time getting you up and on your feet.

“Don’t botha’ try stop we / When you see we on de road”

As the Cropover 2016 carnival festivities get ready to take over the Caribbean island of St. Lucia in July, we like Shut It Down (Hand Grenade Riddim) by Bajan soca artist Boatman to get your energy up where it needs to be. This is an anthem to good times and good drinks. Enjoy responsibly.

We close out this week’s selection with some real SANGIN’. We’re still trying to figure out how we ended up late to the dvsn party, but we’re getting familiar quickly. Starting with Too Deep, the lead single from SEPT. 5th, the debut album from the Canadian duo of singer Daniel Daley and record producer Nineteen85. If you have been looking for some real, quality R&B…then you need this album in your life.
