“Well I don’t really care what people say / I don’t really watch what dem wan do” What we’re listening to this week…
“Sometimes there is nothing left to say / And when there is nothing left to say, we dance”
And so begins the poetic, soul-filled, power-filled words of Carlos Mena on Divine Dance Prayer, the second track on the upcoming 4-track Mezami EP from DJ/Producer Ezel. The fierce house beat on this record is enough to make it a strong addition to your party mix, and Carlos Mena’s words are a powerful way to start every morning this week.
It has been hot…stupid hot…across most of the country for the past few weeks. We’ve been reminded once again of the beauty and necessity of a glass of cold water and a cool breeze. That’s exactly what the album Never 2ndary represents for hip-hop heads. This latest release from the 9-member rappers-and-producers collective The Lessondary is helping provide a refreshing lyrical oasis in a desert of hook-only singles. We like the track Championship Vinyl as a starting point for verbal mastery demonstrated on this album.
From the “This Week in Baby-Making Music” playlist, we’re feeling the single Inside (feat. Anthony Saunders) from the Kansas City production team The Xtraordinair$. This is music for staying in and turning up with that special someone. The song is on the group’s latest album, X ESSENTIAL.
We finish this week’s selections with the light-yet-funky single Olive from the Brooklyn duo denitia and sene. We’re always grateful when artists work with live instrumentation, and the horns on this track are a call to get up and move!
